THE STORY

Neil Mayers didn't plan to work in education.

He grew up in South London during a time when doors were rarely opened for boys like him. He was good at maths. So he studied engineering. But a chance decision to take African World Studies changed the direction of his life.

He discovered a subject that changed how he saw himself, his history, and his purpose.

He trained to become a teacher of mathematics.

He stepped into his first classroom and found what he was meant to do.

It was the first time in my life that everything made sense.

It connected the dots between my past, my present and my purpose.
